Texas Tech signee brings season totals to 4,324 rushing yards, 77 touchdowns during 64-58 victory in Conference 2A Division 2 state playoffs

The historic senior campaign of Kaegan Ash continued Friday night as the Mt. Enterprise star broke a state record that has stood for 72 years and a national mark established in 2017. The Wildcats needed all of his 605 yards and eight touchdowns as they overcame Bremond 64-58 in a wild Texas state playoff shootout.

Against Bremond, Ash ran for 503 yards and six touchdowns to go along with 102 receiving yards and two more scores.

Those numbers helped Ash surpass legendary Ken Hall and his single-season state rushing record of 4,045 yards set in 1953, finishing the night with 4,324 yards.

The yardage record came with less than a minute to go in the first half as Mt. Enterprise elected to run it on fourth and 13. Ash delivered, not only picking up the first down but racing 35 yards for his sixth touchdown of the half.

In addition, Ash broke the national record for single-season touchdowns of 72 established by Kazmeir Allen of Tulare Union (Tulare, Calif.) in 2017. The 6-foot, 210-pound senior brought his total to 77 on the season (67 rushing, nine receiving and one via kick return).

The two teams combined for 643 yards and 88 points in the first half alone.

Ash entered the game with 3,821 rushing yards and 61 touchdowns to go along with 12 receptions for 406 yards and seven scores. He also has a kick return for a TD to his credit this season.

Mt. Enterprise (14-0) advances in the Conference 2A Division 2 state semifinals where it will meet Shiner.
