Football Recap: Savio Eagles vs. St. Michael's Warriors
Savio was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 51-14 defeat at the hands of the St. Michael's Warriors. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 44-20 to the Warriors when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Despite the loss, Savio still got an impressive performance from Ethan Ubias, who rushed for 84 yards and one score on only six carries, and also picked up 46 receiving yards. Ubias didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made eight total tackles (1.0 for loss). Another player making a difference was Patrick Engesser, who picked up 104 receiving yards and one TD.
Nico Anderson produced another solid performance throwing for 243 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per attempt, and also punching in a pair of scores on the ground for St. Michael's. Anderson also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Warriors are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise. Ian Quinn made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Savio's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for St. Michael's, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Savio will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on St. Pius X at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. As for St. Michael's, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 46-6 loss against St. Thomas Catholic on the 31st.
