Baseball Recap: Santa Clara Takes a Loss

Santa Clara made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Dunn, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Saints fell just short of the Earwigs by a score of 7-5 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Saints have suffered against the Earwigs since May 19, 2021.

Lucas Mendez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Christopher Alcala made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Alex Ambriz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Santa Clara dropped their record down to 1-13 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Dunn, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Santa Clara will host Grace at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lancers have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Dunn, they will welcome Cate at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
