Basketball Recap: Newman International Academy Takes a Loss

Newman International Academy and Great Hearts Irving squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Newman International Academy had to settle for second. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to the Great Hearts Irving Mustangs. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Great Hearts Irving's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jakes Maundu led the charge by putting up 14 points. Another player making a difference was John Cotter, who posted ten points along with seven boards and three steals.

Newman International Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 15-15. As for Great Hearts Irving, they pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Newman International Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Great Hearts Irving, they will head out to take on International Leadership of Texas Keller at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. International Leadership of Texas Keller will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Great Hearts Irving surely won't give up without a fight.
