Softball Recap: St. Francis Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

The home team had won the previous five meetings between St. Francis and Princeton, and St. Francis kept the tradition alive. The Fighting Saints walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Tigers on Thursday. This was payback for the Fighting Saints, who suffered a 2-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Sydney Borchert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emerson Markas, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last six contests. Abby Keding was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.

St. Francis' win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Princeton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

As for Princeton, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Delano at 4:00 p.m. Delano will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Princeton surely won't give up without a fight.
