Recap: St. John's Catholic Prep Vikings vs. St. Andrew's Episcopal Lions
If the St. John's Catholic Prep Vikings were riding high off their 62-35 takedown of the Concordia Prep Saints on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. St. John's Catholic Prep took a serious blow against St. Andrew's Episcopal on Wednesday, falling 77-46. While losing is never fun, St. John's Catholic Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while St. Andrew's Episcopal is ranked 14th).
Despite the defeat, St. John's Catholic Prep had strong showings from Cayenne Pigeon, who scored 22 points, and Nadia Ferguson, who scored 15 points. Pigeon scored a full 47.8% of St. John's Catholic Prep's points, the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
St. Andrew's Episcopal's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Soliya Solomon, who shot 4-for-6 from long range and dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Solomon pulled down eight or more rebounds. Lamaria Estridge was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds.
St. John's Catholic Prep's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for St. Andrew's Episcopal, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
St. John's Catholic Prep and Varsity Opponent will round out the year against one another at TBD on December 29th at. As for St. Andrew's Episcopal, they will head out on the road to face off against Dunbar at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Dunbar is on a three-game streak of home wins, St. Andrew's Episcopal a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
