Soccer Recap: Hanover Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Hanover and Varina pushed the score to 8-0 the last time they played Varina, but on Tuesday defenses reigned supreme. The Hawks' defense stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 1-0 shutout. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Hanover's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Varina are ranked 318th).

Hanover's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 30 goals over those five contests. As for Varina, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7-1.

Looking ahead, Hanover will square off against Atlee at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Varina, they will challenge Hermitage at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Varina will be up against Hermitage's rather soft defense (which has allowed 5.45 goals per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
