Baseball Recap: Western Comes Up Short

Western suffered their closest defeat since March 24, 2025 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Flanagan Falcons by a score of 6-4. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2025.

Alec Hernandez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2025.

At the plate, James Gil and Ulises Ramos stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gil went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Ramos got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Another player making a difference was Gavin Andreu, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Western's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Flanagan, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Western is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Fort Lauderdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Flanagan, they will face off against Cypress Bay at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
