Basketball Preview: Milwaukee Lutheran Red Knights vs. Shorewood Greyhounds
Milwaukee Lutheran has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Shorewood Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Milwaukee Lutheran has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 323 points over their last four games.
Even though Brown Deer scored an imposing 70 points on Thursday, Milwaukee Lutheran still came out on top. Milwaukee Lutheran blew past the Falcons, posting a 98-70 win at home. Given Milwaukee Lutheran's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Falcons are ranked 321st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Makhai Jewell was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 0 assists. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Xavier Allen, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 78-44, which was the final score in Shorewood's tilt against the Hustlin' Hawks on Thursday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Shorewood in their matchups with the Hustlin' Hawks: they've now lost five in a row.
Milwaukee Lutheran has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Shorewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Everything came up roses for Milwaukee Lutheran against the Greyhounds when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 96-68 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Milwaukee Lutheran since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
