Softball Game Preview: Bronson Eagles vs. Newberry Panthers

The Bronson Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Newberry Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bronson has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while Newberry will come in with 11 straight wins.

Bronson fell victim to Williston and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Red Devils, falling 11-0. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Eagles, who fell 10-8 when the teams last met back in March of 2019.

Meanwhile, Newberry made easy work of St. Augustine on Friday and carried off an 11-4 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.

Newberry got a massive performance out of Malana Kennard, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Olivia Tharp was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Newberry pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Bronson, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.

Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bronson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Newberry struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Bronson couldn't quite get it done against Newberry in their previous meeting back in February as they fell 7-2. Can Bronson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
