Baseball Recap: Bridgeport Picks Up Third Straight Win at Home

Bridgeport won against Paden City on Wednesday with 24 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Bulldogs didn't even let the Catholic Central Crusaders on the board, marking the Bulldogs' second-straight 24-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won three games by more than 11 runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Connor Nelson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bridgeport is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Nelson was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Bridgeport got a massive performance out of Cy Booth, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one double. LYRIK BROWN also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Bridgeport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .698. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Catholic Central only posted an OBP of .118.

Bridgeport pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Catholic Central, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bridgeport will square off against Magnolia at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Catholic Central, they will take on Wellsville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Crusaders are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
