Softball Game Preview: Volcano Vista Hawks vs. Cleveland Storm

Volcano Vista and Cleveland are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Hawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Storm at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Volcano Vista is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Volcano Vista lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Farmington, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Hawks blew past the Scorpions 11-1 on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Hawks as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Avery Bell and Emily Langley did most of the damage at the plate: Bell went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Langley went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and two runs. Those three hits gave Bell a new career-high. Breezy Griego was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.

Volcano Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Farmington only posted a batting average of .286.

Meanwhile, Cleveland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Piedra Vista, falling 11-1.

Cleveland's loss dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Volcano Vista, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 9-15.

Volcano Vista suffered a grim 18-7 defeat to Cleveland when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
