Softball Game Preview: New London Whalers vs. Ledyard Colonels

New London hasn't had much luck against Ledyard recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Whalers will head out on the road to face off against the Colonels at 4:00 p.m. New London has given up an average of 21.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

New London is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 12th straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They came up short against Putnam, falling 21-5.

Meanwhile, Ledyard had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over the Vikings.

Alexia Lemmon made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Julia Bonser was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Sadie Bordeleau was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Ledyard's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. As for New London, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.

New London might still be hurting after the 27-0 defeat they got from Ledyard in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Whalers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
