Baseball Recap: Melba Has No Trouble Against New Plymouth

Melba came out on top against New Plymouth on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Pilgrims with a sharp 8-2 victory. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Pilgrims back in April, they had to take a 13-12 defeat.

Cooper Brooks made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Brooks was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Melba is 2-1 when Brooks posts three or more hits, but 9-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Ty Aggen was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Kelton Bodily was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Melba's record now sits at 11-13. As for New Plymouth, they dropped their record down to 12-13 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Melba wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 4-1 defeat against Parma on the 3rd. As for New Plymouth, they will square off against North Fremont at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
