Basketball Game Preview: Herron Achaeans vs. Southwestern Spartans

Herron is 0-5 against Southwestern since January of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Herron Achaeans will square off against the Southwestern Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Herron will be strutting in after a win while Southwestern will be coming in after a loss.

On Saturday, Herron blew past BELIEVE Circle City, posting a 47-20 victory. The Achaeans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 22 points or more this season.

Herron's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jasmine Johnson, who posted 17 points. Another player making a difference was Sydney Deemer, who earned 13 points.

Meanwhile, Southwestern was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They were dealt a 67-27 loss at the hands of North Decatur. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 377th, while the Chargers are ranked 129th).

Herron will have to contain Tanna Tatlock as she made an impact in Southwestern's last game. She dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 boards. That was a full 40.7% of Southwestern's points, marking the 17th time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

The win made it two in a row for Herron and bumps their season record up to 13-6. As for Southwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-16.

Herron was dealt a bruising 57-30 loss at the hands of Southwestern in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Herron avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
