Softball Game Preview: Slippery Rock Rockets vs. Mercer Mustangs

The Slippery Rock Rockets will challenge the Mercer Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Slippery Rock came up short against Wilmington on Tuesday, falling 12-2.

Slippery Rock saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Wetzel, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Mercer never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Grove City 8-0. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won five in a row.

Angelina Eakman was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

Mercer now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Slippery Rock, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Slippery Rock skirted past Mercer 6-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2018. Does Slippery Rock have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mercer turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
