League recap: Newsome rises in state rank

8A District 6 recap September 10, 2013

Newsome moved up to 49 from 84 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 8A District 6. The Wolves climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Gaither 38-7.

Plant was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Panthers triumphed over Robinson 28-7.

Bloomingdale's dynamic duo of Isaiah McIntyre and Doug Sandberg proved to be unstoppable against Brandon, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. McIntyre threw for 137 yards and Sandberg had 111 yards receiving. Logan Crouse helped Bloomingdale's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 18 yards.

The Bulls' dynamic duo of McIntyre and Sandberg proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Sandberg was the best receiver in the league this week as Bloomingdale defeated Brandon.

McIntyre put up the best numbers in passing as John Booth's team topped Dean Eychner's team.

Travis Hempstead was the best running back in 8A District 6 this week. He ran for 170 yards on 24 carries as Newsome bested the Eagles. Ramsey Bennett also contributed to the rushing game with 72 yards on the ground.

Bloomingdale's McIntyre and Sandberg have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback McIntyre has thrown for 272 yards this season, while Sandberg has 12 catches for 210 yards. Plant's Alexander Jackson leads the league in rushing yards with 250.

Wharton lost to Plant City 33-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
