Basketball Recap: Holmes County Central Wins Going Away Against Greenwood

Holmes County Central had won four straight at home, but on Tuesday they bumped up to 10-2 to make it five. They strolled past the Greenwood Bulldogs with points to spare, taking the game 57-40. The matchup marked the Jaguars' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Holmes County Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Damarian Harris out in front who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds. The game was Harris' third in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Jefferson, who posted nine points and six assists.

Holmes County Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenwood only posted two.

As for Greenwood, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-4 record. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while Holmes County Central is ranked 12th).

When it comes to explaining why Greenwood lost, don't look at Frederrick Ford. Despite the final result, he put up 14 points and three blocks. Ford has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ralphael Summerville, who earned six points and six boards.

Holmes County Central and Forest Hill will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on the 18th. As for Greenwood, they have already played their next contest, a 54-44 victory against Greenville on the 11th.
