Recap: Roosevelt Roughriders vs. Eastern Ramblers
On Friday, the Roosevelt Roughriders faced the Eastern Ramblers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Roosevelt took a serious blow against Eastern, falling 60-28. Roosevelt was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Eastern apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Eastern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lanaia Martin led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Martin is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Samia Greene, who scored 21 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Roosevelt has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season. As for Eastern, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.
Roosevelt will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against KIPP DC Legacy College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (KIPP DC Legacy College Prep is ranked 18th, while Roosevelt is ranked 13th). As for Eastern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Woodson at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Woodson comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
