Basketball Game Preview: Sunapee Lakers vs. Newmarket Mules

Sunapee and Newmarket are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Sunapee Lakers are taking a road trip to take on the Newmarket Mules at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Sunapee has struggled recently with 13 losses in a row, while Newmarket will arrive with six straight wins.

Sunapee is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 37-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pittsfield.

Meanwhile, Newmarket faced Franklin in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Newmarket took down Franklin 39-24.

Newmarket's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.2 points per game. As for Sunapee, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Sunapee was taken down by Newmarket 40-13 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Sunapee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
