5A Region III District 22 recap October 8, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to South Houston, who took down 691st ranked Pasadena, 34-7.

The Trojans scaled the state rankings by moving to 727 from 919 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region III District 22. South Houston was able to move up by defeating the Eagles 34-7.

Deriq King threw for 195 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 11-15 with 1 interception.

Melvin Reyes was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 100 yards as Pasadena bested Alvin. Valor Ojeda also contributed to the rushing game with 60 yards on the ground.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Mavericks' King and Haynes have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-10 quarterback King has thrown for 796 yards this season, while Haynes has 16 catches for 350 yards. Eric Olszewski from the Yellowjackets leads the league in rushing with 449 yards.

A big matchup in 5A Region III District 22 this week will be when Manvel takes on Dobie. At the moment, Kirk Martin's team is in second, while the Longhorns are in fourth.

Pearland extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sam Rayburn, 62-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
