Basketball Recap: Dunnellon Tigers vs. Trinity Catholic Celtics
Dunnellon's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 42-41 photo finish over the Trinity Catholic Celtics. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dunnellon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Eli Nelson, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Simpson, who posted nine points and seven boards.
When it comes to explaining why Trinity Catholic lost, don't look at Mike Neal. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 9 en route to 11 points and eight rebounds. Neal is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Julian Mendez was another key player, putting up six points.
Dunnellon's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11. As for Trinity Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.
Dunnellon will take on Mount Dora Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Mount Dora Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Dunnellon likes a good challenge. As for Trinity Catholic, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-51 victory against Palatka on the 25th.
