Football Recap: Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls vs. Cibola Cougars
Carlsbad was handed a three-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Cibola on Friday. The Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls blew past the Cibola Cougars 35-6 at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 21-0.
Carlsbad found their leader in underclassman Brock Wright, who rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 44 receiving yards and a touchdown. The bulk of thoserushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 74 yards. Another player making a difference was Kason Perez, who threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns.
Carlsbad's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Blas Lopez and Colton Mckibben. Mckibben is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in the last five games he's played dating back to last season.
The win got Carlsbad back to even at 2-2. As for Cibola, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
Carlsbad will venture away from home to challenge Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Centennial knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 point or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Carlsbad likes a good challenge. As for Cibola, they will take on Clovis at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cibola is facing Clovis at the right time seeing as Clovis is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
