Basketball Recap: King's Academy Comes Up Short

If King's Academy was riding high fresh off their 59-39 takedown of Oxbridge Academy on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lions had to suffer through a 64-33 loss at the hands of the Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while the Royal Lions are ranked 89th).

Despite the defeat, King's Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Anna Birmingham posted 15 points and four steals. That was a full 45.5% of the Lions' points, marking the fourth time in a row Birmingham has had more than a third of the team's points.

Immaculata-La Salle got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isabella Aversa out in front who shot 67% from the field en route to 18 points along with seven assists and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Aversa a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ana Villarreal, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.

King's Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Immaculata-La Salle, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-4.

King's Academy has already played their next contest, a 54-18 loss against Northwestern on the 17th. As for Immaculata-La Salle, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 44-39 defeat against Calvary Christian Academy on the 20th.
