Baseball Recap: Waynesboro Gets the Win

Waynesboro took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Wilson Memorial, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Little Giants won by a run and slipped past the Green Hornets 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Little Giants: when they faced off against the Green Hornets back in April, they had to take a 11-2 defeat.

Haden Morris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Morris was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Waynesboro's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 7-12 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Waynesboro let Casey Breeden and Aidan White run wild. Breeden went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while White went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases White has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikey Shifflett, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Waynesboro is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Wilson Memorial, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 15-8 record.

Looking ahead, Waynesboro will head out to face off against Spotswood at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trailblazers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Little Giants surely won't give up without a fight. Wilson Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
