Softball Recap: Wakulla's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Wakulla dropped their record down to 17-4-1 on Saturday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Spanish Fort Toros by a score of 2-1. The War Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Toros earlier this season, when they won 8-5.

Charley Butler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances.

As for Spanish Fort, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 34-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games.

On Spanish Fort's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Cayden Dorger gave up a run (which was unearned) on three hits.

At the plate, Spanish Fort saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anne Thomas Luke, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Wakulla and Spanish Fort should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in their respective state rankings. The War Eagles (ranked eighth) will meet Franklin County (ranked 72nd) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wakulla 1.5, the Seahawks 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Spanish Fort will take on McGill-Toolen at 3:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (9 vs. 304). The timing is sure in the Toros' favor as the team sits on 17 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Yellowjackets have been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road.
