Volleyball Recap: Western Branch Comes Up Short

The Western Branch Bruins came up short against the Menchville Monarchs on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The Bruins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

While Western Branch ultimately came up short, they really made Menchville work, particularly in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 25-18, 25-14.

Menchville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Wade, who had 31 assists and ten digs. Wade has been hot for a while, having posted 13 or more assists the last 11 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Clements, who had nine kills, eight digs, and five aces.

Western Branch's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Menchville, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

After both having extra time off, Western Branch and Landstown will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Menchville, they will be playing at home against Kecoughtan at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
