Baseball Recap: Mater Dei Takes a Loss

Mater Dei extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-11 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the St. Anthony Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Knights have suffered since April 2, 2024.

Mater Dei saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Strader, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Reid Innes was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

As for St. Anthony, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5. The game was the first time they have beaten Mater Dei on their field since March 16, 2019.

On St. Anthony's side, Charlie Spour was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Spour a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Fearday, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Coming up, Mater Dei is taking a road trip to face off against Salem at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Anthony, they will host Marshall at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
