The Culver Academies Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Washington Township Senators at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Culver Academies will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Culver Academies made easy work of South Central and carried off a 13-1 win. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.
Culver Academies got a great performance from Jak Chaney as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Chaney has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nick Fumich, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Ainsley Ritchie also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Culver Academies kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Washington Township had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They skirted past the Redskins 7-5.
Gavin Kukler was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Schott, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Culver Academies pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Washington Township, their record now sits at 4-2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Culver Academies has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Washington Township struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Culver Academies beat Washington Township 5-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
