Basketball Game Preview: Riverside Warriors vs. Capital Cougars

The Riverside Warriors will head out to challenge the Capital Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Riverside has now lost 14 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 10.

Riverside is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Huntington on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Riverside came up short against Huntington, falling 68-43. The Warriors were down 53-29 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Ava Ward, who posted nine points. That's the most points she has posted since back in February of 2024. Cianna Groom was another key player, putting up nine points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Capital ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top against Hoover by a score of 60-48. The squad ran away with 35 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.

Capital's win bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Riverside, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-14.

Everything came up roses for Riverside against Capital in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 61-22 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Riverside since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
