Softball Recap: Lincoln Takes a Loss

Lincoln dropped down to 17-14 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Normal West Wildcats, falling 13-3. The Railsplitters were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

As for Normal West, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

For Normal West's part, Kate McGowan was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. McGowan was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Normal West got a massive performance out of Avery White, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits White has posted over her last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Ciera Beyers, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lincoln will challenge Tri-Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Normal West, they will square off against Canton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
