Softball Game Preview: Coleman Cougars vs. Niagara Badgers

Coleman has gone a perfect 10-0 against Niagara recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cougars will challenge the Badgers at 4:30 p.m. Coleman will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Coleman's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Saturday, when they got past Hancock's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Cougars walked away with a 13-9 victory over the Bulldogs.

The team relied heavily on Alyssa Kurth, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Macy Nowak was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Coleman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Niagara's offense. They lost 12-0 to Hancock on Saturday. The Badgers' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row dating back to last season.

Niagara's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Coleman, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-3.

Coleman took their victory against Niagara in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
