Softball Game Preview: Eagan Wildcats vs. Minneapolis Southwest Lakers

The Eagan Wildcats will face off against the Minneapolis Southwest Lakers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Eagan's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Minneapolis Southwest's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Eagan couldn't beat Academy of Holy Angels on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Wildcats fell just short of the Stars by a score of 6-5.

Jocelyn McClary was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That one hit allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.

In other batting news, Greta Bergh was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Minneapolis Southwest suffered their biggest loss since April 11th on Wednesday. They lost 17-2 to St. Louis Park. The Lakers have struggled against the Orioles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Eagan's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Minneapolis Southwest, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

Everything went Eagan's way against Minneapolis Southwest when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Eagan made off with a 13-3 victory. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
