Softball Recap: Torrington Raiders vs. Wolcott Eagles
Torrington had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-8 to make it four. They fell 4-0 to the Wolcott Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Raiders of the 14-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
As for Wolcott, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games.
For Wolcott's part, not much got past Avery Malenfant, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Torrington off the board. Malenfant has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Shea, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Brayden Keeley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
