Baseball Game Preview: West Greene Pioneers vs. Sewickley Academy

The West Greene Pioneers will head out to take on Sewickley Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Greene comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

West Greene came up short against United on Saturday, falling 13-3.

Hunter Gorby was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Sewickley Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of Western Beaver.

Billy Pietragallo and Charlie Scally did some serious damage despite the final result: Pietragallo scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5, while Scally scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Straka, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Even though they lost, Sewickley Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Beaver only managed six hits.

Sewickley Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for West Greene, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

West Greene came out on top in a nail-biter against Sewickley Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Greene since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
