Basketball Recap: Herington Comes Up Short

Herington came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Wabaunsee Chargers, falling 71-48. The Railroaders lost against the Chargers in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 58-57 score last time.

Despite the loss, Herington still got an impressive performance from Mason Mortensen, who posted 32 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. That was a full 66.7% of Herington's points, marking the 15th time in a row Mortensen has scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Pierce Schelesner, who put up eight points.

Herington's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Wabaunsee, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-1 record this season.

Herington has already played their next match (against Hartford), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Wabaunsee does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
