Softball Recap: Cheatham County Central Has No Trouble Against Hickman County

Cheatham County Central won the last time they faced Hickman County and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Cubs put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 10-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Cubs, who have now won three matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Haylee Dowlen was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.7 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Weakley, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Georgia Hunter was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Cheatham County Central lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Cheatham County Central's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Hickman County, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Cheatham County Central will welcome Sycamore at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in the Cubs' favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while the War Eagles have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. As for Hickman County, they will venture away from home to challenge Houston County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Fighting Irish have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
