Softball Recap: Midland Takes a Loss

Midland had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-14 to make it 11. They lost 18-8 to the Woodland Warriors. The Timberwolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 6-4.

Sophia Cordio made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Sophia Coccia was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

As for Woodland, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-12. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

On Woodland's side, Jaylei Leininger was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Leininger has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Chismarick, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Midland will square off against Dwight at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.88 runs per game on average), something the Timberwolves will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Woodland, they will face off against Henry-Senachwine at 4:30 p.m. on May 6.
