Lytle and Hondo are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but likely not for long. The Pirates will take on the Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Lytle barely beat Dilley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 14-6 victory on Friday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Lytle got a massive performance out of Alyssa Spenger, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. What's more, Spenger posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of DANICA MARTINEZ, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Spenger wasn't the only one making solid contact: Lytle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The Pirates are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Hondo made easy work of Crystal City on Friday and carried off an 11-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Owls.
The team relied heavily on Kristyn Ybarra, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Makylie Pena also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Hondo now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Lytle, they now have a winning record of 11-10-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lytle hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Hondo struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Lytle's way against Hondo when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Lytle made off with a 13-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
