Basketball Recap: Newark Tech Piles Up the Points Against Newark Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newark Tech). They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat the Newark Central Blue Devils 84-36. The Terries have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 25 points or more this season.

Newark Central lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Drean Aikins, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds. Aikins is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Thomas, who posted 11 points.

The win (which was Newark Tech's fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Newark Central, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newark Tech will square off against Newark Vocational at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Newark Central, they will challenge West Caldwell Tech at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
