Baseball Recap: Hokes Bluff Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Hokes Bluff dropped their record down to 17-14 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 8-2 to the Haleyville Lions. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Lions this season, with their most recent loss being a 8-4 defeat on Friday.

As for Haleyville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 21 of their last 23 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

For Haleyville's part, Eli Cagle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Cagle was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Haleyville let Evan Cagle and Cooper McNutt run wild. Cagle went 2-for-4 with five RBI and one stolen base, while McNutt went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those five RBI gave Cagle a new career-high. Even Howard was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

While Hokes Bluff had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
