Basketball Recap: Isle of Wight Academy Comes Up Short

Isle of Wight Academy lost against Broadwater Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Isle of Wight Academy Chargers fell 38-31 to the Broadwater Academy Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 379th, while the Vikings are ranked 186th).

Broadwater Academy was led to victory by Kacey Ford and Leah Smith. Ford went 5 for 11 on her way to 13 points and five steals, while Smith went 5 of 10 en route to 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Smith has been hot, having also posted three or more blocks the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Holloway, who posted six points.

Isle of Wight Academy's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Broadwater Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Isle of Wight Academy will venture away from home to challenge Suffolk Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Broadwater Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Greenbrier Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greenbrier Christian Academy's defense has only allowed 28.7 points per game this season, so Broadwater Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
