Volleyball Game Preview: American Canyon Wolves vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals

The American Canyon Wolves will challenge the Cardinal Newman Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Cardinal Newman will be up against a hot American Canyon team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. American Canyon put the hurt on Ukiah with a sharp 3-0 victory on Tuesday.

American Canyon never let Ukiah on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. The final score came out to 25-11, 25-14, 25-22.

Elijah Arizabal and Geo Miguel MacAso were among the main playmakers for American Canyon as the former had 11 digs and one assist and the latter had seven digs. That's the most digs Arizabal has posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman got the win against Sonoma Valley on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Cardinal Newman not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Sonoma Valley between 17 and 20 points across their sets. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-20, 25-19.

The victory got Cardinal Newman back to even at 2-2. As for American Canyon, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.

American Canyon was able to grind out a solid victory over Cardinal Newman when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 3-1. Will American Canyon repeat their success, or does Cardinal Newman have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
