Newport is 0-6 against Chewelah since April of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will head out to challenge the Cougars at 2:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Newport comes in on ten and Chewelah on 16.
On Friday, Newport was able to grind out a solid victory over Reardan, taking the game 7-2.
Hank Kirkwood was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Newport let Ryder Riddles and Kutter Driver run wild. Riddles went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Driver got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases. Driver has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Nate Shaw also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Chewelah got the win against Northwest Christian School on Saturday by a conclusive 11-1. Considering the Cougars have won 12 games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Chewelah also got a great performance from Bode Katzer as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Makai Masuda and Luke McGuire did most of the damage at the plate: Masuda went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while McGuire went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Nolan Jeanneret was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Chewelah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive contests.
Newport's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Chewelah, their record is now 16-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Newport has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Chewelah struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Newport couldn't quite get it done against Chewelah in their previous matchup back in April of 2018 as they fell 5-2. Can the Grizzlies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
