Basketball Recap: Will Odle's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Roane County over Nicholas County

Roane County was the 71-67 winner over Nicholas County when they last played one another back in February of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. The Roane County Raiders fell 54-41 to the Nicholas County Grizzlies on Tuesday.

Roane County's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Odle, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Taylor, who posted eight points.

Even though they lost, Roane County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Nicholas County can attribute much of their success to Isaiah Miner, who put up six points in addition to eight boards and five steals. Nicholas County is 3-1 when Miner posts three or more steals, but 3-11 otherwise. Maverick Smith was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points and six rebounds.

Roane County dropped their record down to 5-12 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Nicholas County, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.

Coming up, Roane County will be playing in front of their home fans against Tyler at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Nicholas County, they are taking a road trip to face off against Sissonville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
