Baseball Game Preview: Calvert Senecas vs. Woodmore Wildcats

The Calvert Senecas will face off against the Woodmore Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Calvert's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Woodmore's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Things were looking good for Calvert after they put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Lakota by a score of 6-5.

Blake Coleman was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Coleman wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Charlie Palm, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. That run was Palm's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Woodmore fell victim to Margaretta and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 16-0 to the Polar Bears. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Calvert's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-2. As for Woodmore, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

Woodmore's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Calvert has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. It's a different story for Woodmore, though, as they've only averaged .341. Will they be able to contain Calvert's hitters?

Calvert came out on top in a nail-biter against Woodmore when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Senecas repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
