Volleyball Recap: Benjamin Buccaneers vs. Pine Crest Panthers
After flying high against Martin County on Thursday, Benjamin came back down to earth. The Buccaneers took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pine Crest Panthers on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Buccaneers of the 2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.
Benjamin actually scored more points across those four sets (83-82), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-21, 7-25, 25-15.
Emmie Hill paced Benjamin's offense, picking up 15 kills. Hill got some help from Riley McCaughey and her 24 assists. McCaughey was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.
Pine Crest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaylee Foreman, who had 18 digs and five assists. Foreman has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Isabella Collado, who had nine digs and two aces.
Having lost for the first time this season, Benjamin fell to 3-1. As for Pine Crest, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Looking ahead, Benjamin will be playing at home against Dr. Joaquin Garcia at 6:30 p.m. on September 3. As for Pine Crest, they will be taking part in a tournament against Trinity Catholic at 12:10 p.m. on Friday.
