Basketball Recap: Costa Mesa Comes Up Short

Costa Mesa played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 70-46 to the Laguna Beach Breakers. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Breakers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Laguna Beach was led to victory by Owen Fouhy and Brody Azadian. Fouhy posted 21 points, while Azadian had 21 points. Another player making a difference was Mason Tate, who put up ten points.

Costa Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Laguna Beach, they moved to 2-11 with that win, which also ended their seven-game losing streak.

Costa Mesa and Laguna Beach could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Mustangs will square off against Fountain Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (977 vs. 34). Meanwhile, Laguna Beach (ranked 1087th) will meet Aliso Niguel (ranked 173rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
