With a playoff win on the line, Wauconda rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Vernon Hills Cougars, sneaking past 2-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won three matches in a row.

Wauconda had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-27, 25-23, 25-21.

Makayla Berg paced Wauconda's offense, picking up 13 kills. Berg got some help from Avery Geoghan and her 25 assists. Geoghan also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Gabriella Lichon, each putting up two.

Wauconda's win bumped their record up to 12-20. As for Vernon Hills, their defeat ended a five-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-14.

Coming up, Wauconda will challenge Carmel at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vernon Hills does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
