Major League Baseball has existed for over 100 years, and no player has ever hit more than four home runs in a game.

That puts recent Crest (Shelby, N.C.) grad Elijah Spurling in pretty good company.

On Monday night the Post 82 first baseman blasted four home runs and drove in 13 runs in a 19-6 win over Gastonia, according to the Shelby Star.

Spurling reportedly received tons of congratulatory text messages and Facebook posts following his astonishing feat.

The Star said there are no official North Carolina American Legion baseball records, but it assumed that Spurling most likely set the state record for home runs and RBIs in a game.

This spring Spurling competed on Crest's baseball team, which made a Cinderella run in the playoffs before falling in the state semifinals.
